Season Preview: Buffalo Sabres

Season Preview: Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres got off to a hot start last season that included a record-tying franchise record 10-game win streak. That quickly turned into a mirage as they hit a rough patch and eventually found themselves on the outside of the playoffs fighting to stay out of the basement of the league. The Sabres finished off the season 6th in the Atlantic Division and 27th in the league, 22 points out of a playoff spot.

Additions: Marcus Johansson, Colin Miller, Jimmy Vesey, Henri Jokiharju, Ralph Krueger

Subtractions: Jason Pominville, Alex Nylander

Forwards:

The Sabres made some great additions to their depth over the summer adding players like Marcus Johansson and Jimmy Vesey. They struggled to find the net last year so the hope has to be that they can help boost their offense.

Defense:

Rasmus Dahlin is a complete stud and will only get better. Adding Brandon Montour last season was a smart move and it’s reasonable to expect some kind of bounce-back from Rasmus Ristolainen. If they can put it together, this d-core could be one of the stronger ones this year.

Goalies:

Carter Hutton hasn’t proved he can hold down the starters job for a full season but Linus Ullmark is looking more and more like the future of this team. A bounce-back season for Hutton would go a long way towards this team getting back to the playoffs.

The Point Prediction:

Playing in the stacked Atlantic Division will be a grind for the Sabres. They’ll find themselves missing the playoffs for another season and eventually finishing 6th in the Atlantic and 20th place overall.
