Point Shot: Aho shines in ‘Canes OT win.

Sebastian Aho might be his own biggest critic because even though he wasn’t happy with how he played last night, the numbers show he had a terrific game.

Aho scored the overtime winner, giving the Hurricanes their 2nd win in 8 games. Not only did he win the game, but Aho also drove the play for the Canes all night, gaining the zone with possession of the puck more than anyone else on the ice. The 12 controlled zone entries were a season-high for Aho, who ranks top-30 in the league averaging just over 5.5 per game. Aho made great use of his possession skills by taking more shots from the slot than anyone else in the game.

Before ending the game in overtime, Aho won a critical offensive zone face-off to Teuvo Teravainen who immediately scored to bring the Canes within one.

Aho may not have been happy with his play last night but he sure was effective. He’s the biggest game changer the Hurricanes have and they need him to be a difference maker if they’re going to win games. If last night is what Aho considers to be a ‘bad game’ then look out NHL when this kid starts having ‘good games.’
